writing

I love to write…it is the best? I write about itchy little human interactions that stick with us and the comedy of the mundane across most mediums.

Alongside my own practice, I also work as a writing assistant and script editor helping people to develop their scripts.

Theatre

I have performed my work at Theatre503, VAULT Festival, Ed Fringe Festival, LAMDA’s MishMash Festival, OSO New Writing, and the ARE WE THERE YET? Festival. I was shortlisted for Paradox Theatre’s Monologue Competition 2020. I co-produced and co-starred in my first play, ‘GOOD WOMEN’ (Ed Fringe 2018 & VAULT 2019) and people said nice things about it:

“Strap in for an absolutely delightful and surprisingly heartfelt ride. This script is packed with whip-smart subversive feminism and the cast is a joy to watch.”

— ★★★★★ Theatre Guide London

“This show is an absolute cracker and is filled with wonderful writing by Steck.”

— ★★★★★ Within Her Words

Film

I wrote, co-directed, produced, and starred in my first short film, AWKWARD INTIMACY and have since developed it into a 30-minute comedy pilot called FUCK ME, which was recently a semi-finalist in Raindance Film Festival’s unproduced script competition. I wrote, directed, produced, and starred in my new short, HERBS, which is currently playing in festivals internationally.

Prose

I write for Lickerish Library, an online erotica magazine (smut is fun! but no I won’t tell you what name I write under) and am developing my first collection of short stories, ‘A Kind of America’. I have a Substack called the Substeck (fun!) where I share my thoughts musics, and complaints about whatever I’m watching and … life generally.

I trained as scriptwriter at The Royal Central School of Speech & Drama and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wesleyan University (Theatre, BA High Honours) in 2012 where I wrote my dissertation on the whore as an archetypal character of agency for female actors and called it “The Whore in All of Us.” My parents were psyched!
